United States, Arizona, Yavapai County, Bradshaw Mountains, Hassayampa District, Hassayampa Creek, Senator Mine
The Senator Mine is the largest mine we have ever explored. It has a main shaft which is about 3
miles long. There are also 13 sub-tunnels to the left and right along the main shaft which are also 2 to 3 miles
long. The mine has a second and third level which are yet to be explored due to climbing conditions. We have explored 9
of the 13 sub-tunnels; four of which were not explored because of collapsed ceilings and flooding. The mine is also
in terrible condition. It is flooded year-round with a "oatmeal-like" water. The ceilings, walls, and floors are wet
and always pouring down water. The wood supports are so destroyed from water rot, you can push your fingers into the wood
like butter. The mineral content in the mine water is so high that when the "Oatmeal-like" water gets on your skin it
will stain it yellow for five or six days. Definately a "10" but very dangerous. Use extreme caution when exploring this mine.
